DNF package manager guid for installing and enabling the php

https://techglimpse.com/install-php-centos-stream/

DNF

DNF is a software package manager that installs, updates, and removes packages on Fedora and is the successor to YUM (Yellow-Dog Updater Modified). DNF makes it easy to maintain packages by automatically checking for dependencies and determines the actions required to install packages.

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/dnf/

What is remi repo ?

Remi repo is a free and stable YUM repository mainly for the PHP stack. It contains packages for the latest versions of PHP. This article describes how to use Remi repo on CentOS 5/6/7

Install guide for php latest version (any version)

Step 1: Enableremi-release-8.rpm

Configure the Remi repository for installing PHP 8 on CentOS 8

# dnf install https://rpms.remirepo.net/enterprise/remi-release-8.rpm

Step 2: Enable EPEL repository

# dnf install epel-release

Step 3: Find the current enabled version of PHP

# dnf module list php
CentOS Stream 8 - AppStream
Name Stream Profiles Summary
php 7.2 [d] common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language
php 7.3 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language
php 7.4 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language

php remi-8.1 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language

Hint: [d]efault, [e]nabled, [x]disabled, [i]nstalled

Step 4: Enable the module PHP8.1 from remi

From the above output, by default PHP 7.2 from the AppStream repo shall be installed and no other version is enabled. To install PHP 8.1 from the remi repo, enable it before installation.

# dnf module enable php:remi-8.1
# dnf module list php
CentOS Stream 8 - AppStream
Name Stream Profiles Summary
php 7.2 [d] common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language
php 7.3 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language
php 7.4 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language
php 8.0 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language

Remi's Modular repository for Enterprise Linux 8 - x86_64
Name Stream Profiles Summary
php remi-7.2 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language
php remi-7.3 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language
php remi-7.4 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language
php remi-8.0 common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language
php remi-8.1 [e] common [d], devel, minimal PHP scripting language

In case, if you need to install any other version, you can reset the current module enabled and set the new using the below commands:

# dnf module reset php

Redis installation in Red Hat Linux

In this post we will see step by step installation of Redis service in Redhat/CentOS operation system. To install Redis, run this command in terminal -dnf install redis This command will install the redis service in your machine. Verify installation -systemctl status redis -systemctl start redis -systemctl enable redis Note: Before start redis service set Linux Kernal overcommit memory to 1 by adding vm.overcommit_memory = 1 to /etc/sysctl.conf file. Why we should do that: As we know redis is in memory data store. It primarily uses RAM to store data. Redis and other processes use RAM memory. We set vm.overcommit_memory = 1 to make sure Kernal not overcommit the memory by allocating memory to new program which required more memory than available memory. In this scenario OOM (Out Of Memory) killer terminate the rest of processes. We also restricting Kernal not to terminate the important services running and also stop swapping redis and other importance service to device i/o device,...
